Finding the percent

Finding the percent

From a part to a percent
A check: 25% of 200 is 50.

There are 200 students in the sixth grade, and 50 of them are members of a youth movement.
What percent of the students are members of a youth movement?
As when finding the part: 50 out of 200 is 50200\displaystyle \frac{50}{200} of the students. Write the fraction with the denominator 100 – here you reduce by 2:

50200=25100=25%\displaystyle {\frac{50}{200}}={\frac{25}{100}}={25\%}

Reducing, then expanding

Sometimes 100 is not divisible by the denominator, and the denominator is not divisible by 100. Then reduce first, and expand to the denominator 100 after that.
9 out of 12:

912=34=75100=75%\displaystyle {\frac{9}{12}}={\frac{3}{4}}={\frac{75}{100}}={75\%}
